How to charge my iPod without syncing it

I like to use the shuffle mode in my iPod a lot. I would like to go trough the whole playlist before changing the content. Unfortunately I haven't managed to connect my Ipod to computer without that it tries to sync the content, which erases the current shuffle list, and I have to start it again from song nr. 1.

When I charge my Ipod with car charger, the shuffle play list stays where it was.

I have changed the iPod options, to not launch iTunes, when iPod is connected and to manage my music manually.

Always when i connect my iPod to PC, it tries to do some kind of update. There is a sign on the screen and it says "Do not disconnect". The iTunes is not started. I have done all the advised steps.

The way how I like to use often my iPod is, to shuffle the content of about 700 songs and then replace the content at least partly. Unfortunately the battery can only handle less than 100 songs, before i need to charge it. After charging the shuffle list has been erased, and I need to start from song 1.

I have a 1st generation Nano.
