Macbook stolen(?) after delivery

So, heres my story - I ordered a MacBook on Sep-21, was supposed to be delivered on Sep-26. During the first delivery attempt, i was home, but the FedEx guy never knocked on my door, just left a doortag. Next morning, I signed the doortag and left it on my door (yes, i'm that stupid). By evening, FedEx website says package has been delivered and i don't find anything by my door. Checked with all the neighbors, but nothing.

I call apple and inform them - im told that they'll send me a replacement after a package trace is complete. Trace takes more than 2 weeks and finally today they tell me that since i signed the doortag, they are not liable. I take responsibility for being stupid enough to sign the doortag, but i suspect the delivery guy of foul play. In the proof of delivery, my signature is hardly visible - i cant make out if its mine or not.

Is there anything i can do now, apart from filing a complaint with the police? has anyone experienced/heard-of such a thing happening before? any suggestion is appreciated.

If you signed the tag so he could leave it you may be out of luck. Apple is not liable and Fed-Ex isn't liable because you gave permission to leave it at your door.

How would you have signed a proof of delivery if you signed a door tag? You said you weren't there when it was left.

Only thing I know to do is call the Police. You should be able to get the serial number from apple for the Macbook that was shipped.

How did you pay for it? If you used a credit card check with them and see if they have any protection for theft. They might cover it but don't count on it since you signed for it to be delivered.

Good Afternoon,

Sadly when you signed the delivery card you accepted responsibility for the security of the delivery, thus when it disappeared from your door step it is not the responsibility of the carrier or Apple any longer.

You can file a Police report but aside from getting that on file I do not think there will be anything you can hope to achieve from that, there are no leads to go on.

You might have a case to report it to your home owners insurance as a theft, depending on your policy it may be covered.

Good luck with this. 
