Some MP4 videos cannot be played on my iPod

When I try to sync some of my videos via iTunes to my iPod Touch, iTunes gives me a dialog box saying that the video, even though it's in the correct format, cannot be played on my iPod. I've converted it using many converters, and funny thing is sometimes a video from a converter will work while another video from the same converter will not. Help?

Hey,

I'm guessing that you know what your doing when converting so I'm going to get into specifics.
On the apple website http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html
It says to make sure that the video's bitrate is below 1.5Mbps for H.264 and 2.5Mbps for MPEG 4, this is high but can easily be done. Also checking that its the right resolution 640 x 480 can help.

The best way of ensuring this is to use either Quicktime Pro or iTunes, although these are slow and don't convert all formats to iPod.

Well . avi files aren't all compressed the same way, unlike .wmv. This means the video's vary greatly, the most common . avi files are encoded by DivX and Xvid.

Sadly for you I'm a mac user so I have no idea on how you'd go about seeing how the AVI file has been compressed, this converter seems like a good place to start * http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/* if this doesn't work, try experimenting with various converters, I generally type in "avi to iPod" in google and give them all a try.
