iPod Touch not recognized by iTunes. .

ok. I got a brand new 8 GB iPod Touch. I have the latest iTunes. (And Windows XP)

I plug in my iPod. Windows recognizes it as a camera. So windows asks if i want to download pictures using camera wizard. I click out of that, hoping iTunes will give me options. Nothing.

All I see is this on the iPod Screen:

It's the iPod connector and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. Thats it. Nothing else happens.

Completely uninstall and reinstall the Apple Software as descrbed here:

The reinstall should make the iPod touch activate correctly but If it still has the same issue try the tips in these articles.

Okay, here's what I did. I bought mine yesterday and was getting the same screen as the one pictures above. I thought that I just needed to leave it to charge but anyway......... I ended up going to the Best Buy store tonight like 5 minutes before they closed. The dude hooked it up to his computer and it started working instantly and has worked perfectly since. He said all he did was plug it in and the main screen popped up for him.

My main problem is that this is my first ipod. I've downloaded service pack 2 and the itunes. I've purchase one song just to figure out how to get it on my ipod. I can't for the life of me see how to get the purchased music into the ipod. This is probably a simple question that you all know but please help this novice!. Also, is there a number I can call for help anytime?

Today I ran into this exact problem. My Touch had been working since I received it in the initial shipments. Last night I purchased several songs through the Touch and they played just fine. This morning I connected it to my system to sync the songs for backup. Nothing. The iPod was initially recognized but would not sync. Eventually the unit went into the state you described. I was unable to get iTunes on my Windows XP system to recognize it at all. After several fruitless hours trying to find an answer, upgrading to 7.4.3, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. I ended up hooking it up to an old PowerMac. Viola! It was recognized as being in Restore mode. Once I did that I switched it back to the XP box and it was instantly recognized again. Right now I am pestering iTunes Store support to let me redownload more of the songs I lost than the single one they have done so far.
