Printer Utility or Epson 1280 software problem

Printer Utility or Epson 1280 software problem

My operating system is a G5 with 4 gigs of ram and OS 10.4.10 which has been operating the last couple of months.

I had a problem with the printer set up utility not opening the printer utility.

I am not sure if this is a OS or an Epson problem.

I reset the printer to a reset everything and now all I get is when I go to the printer browser and highlight the stylus photo 1280 to add I get the message:
A Que for this printer already exists do you really want to create a new que?

Cancel or continue

The application printer setup utility quit unexpectedly.

The printer shows on the system profiler.

Stylus Photo 1280:

Status: Idle
Print Server: Local
Driver Version: 5.0.0-beta2
Default: Yes
URI: usb://EPSON/Stylus Photo 1280?serial=W70L10412222315360
PPD: EPSON Stylus Photo 1280 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2
PPD File Version: 5.0.0-beta2
PostScript Version: (3010.000) 705
I have reinstalled the software and drivers ran disk permissions and disk warrior.

I must be overlooking something obvious any help would be appreciated Printer set up utility shows the stylus 1280 my utility at the top is grayed out and I can’t check nothing in the utilities ( nozzle check, cleaning, ink levels and etc.

I have downloaded drivers also the Epson printer driver 1.9aA 11269 .
Thank You
Dick

Hello

Any help out there?

Is there preference in the plists some where in the system I should trash?
Could the printer utility be corrupt?
If so what can I do?
Everthing shows I have the 1280 with the usb connection. If I turn the printer off I show nothing when it is turned back on: no printers are avaiable, I then click on the add and the printer shows up under the printer browser, I then high light it and the name shows the location shows and print using shows Epson Sp 1280. If I add or click more printers the printer utility quits.

What can I do?

Hello

An up date on my 1280. After spending 2 sessions of one and half hours on the phone no one could help. They said someone on monday would call me from there higher level techs.

Basically the problem now is being able to print from the 1.2-1.3-1,4-1,5and 1.6. These don;t show up.
The only printing available is the standard 1280 1,1. I need the min margins, borderless and etc.

I had all of this yesterday and have been printing on these config for 3 years. The problem with the utility not showing was corrected when apple had me do a Archive and install.

I will repost when I hear from Epson or if any one has any ideas I would appreciate. I have a feeling it is somewhere in a plist but I don;t know where and how to delete the correct one. I thought Epson would be able to help but so far no help from them.
There has to be a simple solution.

Thank You
Dick

Follow up Report
Epson Solved the problem. The Driver 11269 is for the 10.3 and you have to to when adding the printers select Epson All. It was a detailed configuration they had me go through and I can’t remember all the details. After going to higher level tech he got it.

Combination of a coorupt printer utility and proper install of the printer driver.

Hi Dave

Call epson 562-276-7296. If the Tech can't get it done request a case # ask for a higher level tech.

It was quit involved and the person that helped me did not have anything written they could send me.

Basically he had me trash my epson folder then I went to find and typed com.apple. print and trashed all those files. I then reinstalled the printer driver from epson 11269 of which is the driver for the 10.3.
I don't rember all the details exactly but I had to select epson from the pull down and se;ect all.

I then had all the config 1,1-1,2-1,3-1,5 and 1,6 Which gace me all the muin margin Borderless and Roll config.
I am sorry I can't remember all the exact steps but if you get the right person they will have instructions of what to do.
The problem is the driver when trying to install on 10.4 it has to be done in a certain sequence to be able to have all the icc config's

Hope this helps you.

Hello All

I would like to update everyone on my 1280 Printer problem that were solved.

Last week a Rep called me from Epson and did a follow up on the problems that I had but were finally resolved with a higher tech.
She took a full report and then sent me two complete ink cartridges (Black and color) for the problem I had. (They arrived yesterday).
Today a person from the technical department called me and wanted to know all the particulars. He told me there was no excuse for the two that helped me first.

He was going to forward all this information down to the proper personell. He was concerned and wanted to make sure this problem would not happen again.

I have been pleased with Epson and there follow up about the problem. I told him the 2nd level tech had no written documentation on how we resolved the problem.

The man today has sent me the procedure of what to do if this ever happens again.

I am posting this and maybe it may help some that have had similar problems with the drivers. Epson did say there is an issue with some drivers when upgrading the software.

Please follow the instructions below to completely remove and reinstall the
resident Epson driver package for your printer. You can leave the printer
on and connected throughout.

REMOVE FILES

1. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
5. Close any open windows.
6. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
7. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
8. Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
9. Delete any "Epson" receipts.
10. Close all open windows and restart your computer.

REINSTALL THE EPSON DRIVER PACKAGE

1. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc. Open CD when it appears on the
desktop.
2. Find and double-click on the Optional Installs.pkg.
3. After the installer opens, choose the following custom install options:
-Check "Printer drivers" and use arrow next to this entry to expand this
category.
-Check "Epson" below the "Printer drivers" heading. (You do not need to
install other manufacturer's packages.)
4. Click "Install" and follow prompts to reinstall the resident Epson
printer driver package. Restart the computer after installation is
complete.

READD THE PRINTER

1. Go into HD > Applications > Utilities and open the Printer Setup
Utility. The "Printer List" window appears.
2. Highlight and delete any existing references to your Epson printer. (If
you want to be thorough and do not have any other printers on the Mac,
choose "Printer Setup Utility" from the top of the screen and "Reset
Printing System". Confirm resetting the system. This clears any existing
printer entries and queues. If you have other printers on the Mac and use
this reset, you will need to readd them later.)
3. Click ADD. Printer Browser window appears. (At this point your Epson
printer must be on and connected.)
4. Highlight the desired Epson printer model and click the MORE PRINTERS
button at the bottom of the window. (Do not change any other fields.)
5. A window now opens which is identical to 10.2. and 10.3, where you can
select EPSON USB (for a USB cable connection) or EPSON FIREWIRE (for a
firewire connection) at the top of the screen. If applicable highlight your
printer's name and select Page Setup "ALL" below. Otherwise click ADD to
return to the Printer List. (If you are unable to see the full description
under "Kind" you may need to expand the Printer Setup Utility window or
extend the "Kind" column to make this visible.)
6. If more than one driver installs for your printer, make that printer
name/layout option you wish to use default in the Printer Setup Utility
before closing it. For example, if you plan to do a borderless print,
ensure the printer name showing "(Sheet feeder - Borderless)" under "Kind"
is set as the default printer here. Then, when you have opened a photo and
are ready to print, go to File > Page Setup and File > Print in the program
you are printing from and ensure that the specific printer/layout option
you want to use is also selected as "Printer" or "Format for".
