iPod touch 16GB won't start!

Plug the iPod touch directly into the wall with the cable and wall adapter that came with it. If it does not display anything after 10 minutes plug it directly into the MacBook with the USB cable it came with.

To begin with, I am also looking for a solution for a different problem for my iPT 16GB and would like to share some of my observations. Maybe it gives some clue to you.
If the unhooked iPT is not switching on either by pressing the on/off button on top or by pressing the Home button on the front, then try to hook it to your PC via USB and see. Keep your iTunes running on the PC and connected to internet.

Simultaneously get in touch with the Apple Authorised Service provider in your country, which you will get from their web site.

I am assuming you tried a hard reset? Simultaneously press the button at the top and the button at the bottom for about 3-5 seconds and see if the Apple symbol appears.

Since the iPOd touch does not have a hard drive I doubt you will hear anything.

it might be how you were charging it. I tried to charge mine with my wall charger and it just drained the battery completely. The only way mine will charge is through the usb cable that came with it, I don't think the old ipod usb cables will charge it either...

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod? Hold down both buttons (sleep and home) for about 30 seconds until you see the plug with the itunes logo appear (recovery mode). If you get this you can fire up iTunes and reinstall everything.

hmmm... if the new cable doesn't work then I don't know what else to try... sorry
