Can I convert a ".pages" document to a ".doc"

I've created my resume on Pages. Alot of online job postings require resume's to be emailed in a microsoft word ".doc format". Is there anyway to do this without purchasing the Microsoft Word software? Any info on this will help me!

Thanks!

Textedit can open Word documents, and so you may want to open it up in Textedit if you don't have Word and see how it looks. Pages generally does a good job of the conversion, but double checking never hurt.

If there are any formatting difference, another option is exporting the resume to PDF, and attaching that. The PDF will look almost identical to a copy printed from Word and be readable on most computers.

This help article from Pages 3.0 (and the article is similar in other versions) may be helpful:

Hope this helps,

Any layout problems you might experience will probably be caused by font differences. In general it is better to stick with Microsoft-friendly fonts: Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana. I also have found that keeping the formatting simple with standard size margins, headers and footers produces better results.

Looking at a doc on your mac will not really tell you how the document will come out on others machines. They will not have the same fonts as you... unless you stick with the standard ones.

Exporting to PDF creates far better results. PDF is a more universal format and your layout will be preserved. Even unusual fonts will carry over. I would ask if pdf would be an option.
