Combo drive reads commercial DVDs but not burned ones

Hi All:
I have an older G4 with Tiger 10.4.2 installed. I successfully burned a Video DVD, from a disc image, using Toast 7.0.1. My DVD burner is a Lacie external/firewire. The burned DVD plays fine in my stand-alone dvd player, and in my PC, but my Mac's internal combo drive just spits it out. The internal combo drive WILL play commercial DVDs just fine.
????

Could just be the age of the drive. If it's an original G4 500, then the drive is just a CD/DVD-ROM, as those models did not come with burners.

Blank DVD-R have a different reflective media than commercial discs, and older drives may not read some brands. You could try an alternate known quality brand of DVD; you could also try a DVD lens cleaning disc in the drive.

Final solution would be to lob the old drive & install a new DVD burner, which can be had for under $40, if you are in the US.

Hi Hussein:
Thanks for the advice. Perhaps buying a new burner IS the only answer. Since I have the external Lacie burner, which works fine, I wouldn't mind, for now, keeping the internal drive for read only...IF it could read the burned discs.
Here's the specs on the drive...perhaps it's just not capable of reading DVD-R or DVD+R discs???
