missing apple mobile device driver

I have a new Itouch that I am able to sync on my laptop but not on my desktop. When I plug the Itouch into the USB porton my desktop, it is recognized as a camera. I have installed and uninstalled the latest version of Itunes several times with no results. It appears that the only difference in the installation of Itunes between the laptop and the desktop is that it appears that I am missing the apple mobile device driver (verified by going through the apple doc #306640)on my desktop. Running Xp with service pack 2 on both computers. Why isn't this component being loaded into my desktop and where can I obtain it? Thanks.

Yup, tried that. That's how I found out that there was no Apple Mobile Device support. Just wasn't listed. Sooo, I tried several times to install and uninstall Itunes but it still won't show up as being installed.

I had exactly the same problem - had to install the driver manually. First I extracted AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi from iTunes743Setup.exe using WinRAR, then used a program called LessMSIerables to get the drivers from there - I extracted usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys and updated the driver using device manager. Hope this helps mate!

Thanks much. Sounds a bit involved but may have to give it a try. Just curious as to why one computer (laptop) would get all the necessary information and not the other (desktop). Why should I even be missing files/drivers?

I really hope this helps. I was looking all over trying to solve this same problem for the last couple days until I just came across the answer in an outside forum. It sounds simple but it worked.

Uninstall iTunes.
Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
Restart Windows.
Install iTunes.

Try uninstalling the following items in order:
Apple mobile device (might not be installed)
Apple software update
iTunes
Quicktime

Now restart computer.

Now download itunes743setup and save it to your desktop.

Disable any anti-virus and internet security.

Now install itunes.

If this does not work, then there is something blocking the apple mobile device from installing.

Uninstall the items previously mentioned.
Restart the computer again.
Then install itunes again.

The apple mobile device driver is installed with itunes.

i did all of those things but apple mobile device suport still wont install, it gives me this long eror message and i dont know what to do, help somebody please i wanna use my ipod touch
