Visual static and blackout using DVI cable

Visual static appears when motion is displayed on the monitor and the monitor may black out. If the motion is a short duration (e.g. iTunes Cover Flow switching between covers), the static appears, the display goes black for a few seconds, then returns to normal when the motion stops. If the motion is a long duration (e.g., playing certain videos or iTunes Visualizer), the static appears then the display goes and stays black as long is the video keeps playing.

The problem only happens when the display is connected using the DVI cable. It does not happen when using the VGA cable. I'm connecting a ViewSonic VX2025wm to a G4 Mac mini.

I really want to use the DVI connection because the display is better than when using VGA.

I found a couple references to "pixel clock" in other discussions, but I don't know what that is. In the "info" screen on the ViewSonic, I see 146.2 MHz.

Have you heard of this problem? Is there a fix for it?

Thanks in advance.

What you seem to be describing is a problem that was not altogether uncommon when using some DVI displays with G4 Mac minis, and unfortunately there was no specific resolution for it. There may be users here, such as BSteely, who may be able to help you use utilities such as SwitchRes X to adjust settings, including the Pixel Clock, to improve the display and reduce the problem, but you may not be able to correct it completely.
