Fried my iPhone on an iHome!

I fried my iPhone on our iHome radio/speaker unit. I've read in this forum (after the fact) that this has happened to a few people.

Anyway, I sent it in to Apple last week and it's currently on the way back, no I'm just wondering if I will be receiving and repaired unit back or a new replacement. Can anyone who has had service done by Apple let me know what I should expect?

Thanks.

It will be a replacement. Next time use the supplied dock/and or USB cable that came with the phone. Docking stations for an iPod provide easily twice the needed voltage for recharging an iPhone. I do not understand this prediliction for trying to "make do" with old equipment interfacing with new high dollar toys. It just leads to disaster my friends.

Give me a break!

It's not a 'prediliction' (sic) to use old equipment with new toys. It's a case of trying to play music from an iPod that Steve Jobs even called the "Best iPod ever", on a device that is Apple "Made for iPod" Certified AND is only 3 months old!

Using your logic I guess I shouldn't be using my 4 month old apple iPhone Dock and cable with the new/refurbished iPhone that Apple is sending me – I would hate to develop a predilection for returning fried product to Apple! (c;

He was not trying to help. My question was answered, marked answered and I confirmed that with a follow-up post. He was taking a jab and I was swiping back. I'm not worried about not having my iPhone, I have another I am currently using.

The Apple CEO called it an iPod (see my previous post or the Apple keynote in which the iPhone was announced), therefore it IS an iPod and should work with Apple "Made for iPod" Certified devices. As well, if the iPhone can not handle voltages that Apple "Made for iPod" Certified devices output, then Apple should not have used the PROPRIETARY iPod dock connector on the iPhone. They should have introduced another connector.

I cant understand why people are sticking up for apple for making the brainless decision to include the same proprietary connection available on other iPods if it is not compatable with the iPhone, which is also considered an iPod by Jobs himself. The fact of the matter is, when you plug the iPhone in, it does work. Why would anyone think that an apple accessory that WORKS with the iPhone would destroy it? If it doesn't work with iPod accessories then don't use the same connection.

I am NOT sticking up for Apple. Trust me I have been slapped here with a "wet noodle" a few times too for bashing Apple!!!.I am only pointing out that Electronic devices are very sensitive to voltage differences and that is something we all need to keep in mind. So,symantecs is not my forte when you say "Jobs said it was an iPod". On that note if they are that brainless, geez they sold a lot of phones and got rich.

Every time I get close to going out and buying some form of iPod speaker dock, or clock radio dock for my iPhone, I read another one of these posts where an iPhone got fried by one - so far I've read posts about JBL On Stage, iHome, Apple Hi-Fi and multiple iPod chargers all crisping iPhones. I'm just going to keep patiently waiting for some real "Made for iPhone" speaker docks / clock radios to be released.

With 1,000,000+ iPhones now on the US market, and Europe getting ready to start selling them, some manufacturer has to realize there's potential for lots of Christmas presents to be sold. All we need is the correct charging voltage and some shielded speakers . . .

I would get the friend to drop it by an Apple Store when he's in the US. Apple will only deal with iPhone issues from within the US. They may swap it on the spot.

I called in my issue to Apple so I had to give my iPhone to a friend in the US. Apple sent them a pre-paid FedEx box to ship it, they sent it in to Apple and then Apple returned it to the same US address. I now have to get my iPhone from my US friend.

Good luck.
