problem with Radeon 9800 Pro Mac 128mb

Hello,

I recently bought a Radeo 9800 Pro Mac 128mb card from eBay and am having the darndest time getting it to work.

Here are the symptoms:
When booting up, I get past the grey Apple bootup screen and see the Aqua Blue screen. But that's it. Usually the next thing I see is the OS loading progress bar and then the login window.

Here is what I have tried:
• Booting in safe mode will work with the card. However, in safe mode the card is... well... safe.
• Downloaded & installed the ATI drivers 4.5.6.
• Downloaded & installed the ATI Mac Rom August 2005 v130 (Note: v130 was already installed on this card. At a point during the install the instructions say a popup window will appear showing me the old firmware version and the new firmware being installed. This never occured.)
• Tried Flashing PRAM.
• Tried Fixing Permissions.
• Tried reinstalling OS 10.4.2 Update, as this had some Radeon updates to the drivers.
• Tried installing a clean OS version 10.4.0 on a seperate Hard Drive. Installed Radeon Drivers. Booted into that OS and had the same problem.
• Tested the card with TechTools. When I look at the card through TechTools, it tests the card and labels it as:
Card Model: Radeon 9800 XT, R360
Which is different than what the SystemProfiler labels it?
This is supposed to be a 9800 pro mac, R350.
• The part number on the ATI software says this is an ATI Radeon
9800 Pro Mac Edition: 109-A07502-00
However, printed on the card is the number:
109-A07500-00
Which is a PC version of the card?

I am starting to suspect this was a PC card flashed to work on a mac, even though the seller specifically stated that his cards were not flashed. But I don't want to jump to conclusions.

Can anyone help me get this card working? Or at least confirm if this is a PC card?

Thank you.

Thanks for the link. It's definately not a 100 or 102 p/n... I think it's a Saphire card that uses the ATI chipset... at least that's what I got when I googled the 109 part number posted above.

I can assume that if the card is not built by ATI, and by another company who builds video cards with ATI chips that it's not a Radeon 9800 Pro for Mac?

It gets really confusing when you have other companies buildng video cards with ATI chipsets in them, and then calling them the same name as the ATI card. Insanity!
