I converted the movie, but no sound

I converted the movie, but no sound
the movie was converted from mpg. to m4v.

any reason?

btw, to convert 3 minutes of video takes like 30 minutes!

The original MPG probably had sound formatted in a type that cannot be converted properly by your converter.

iTunes can't extract audio from muxed file formats like MPEG 1 or 2.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert to the iPhone settings.

I already have Xilisoft Video Converter 3, under what should I convert it too? like mp4, etc?

You definitely want to convert to MPEG4, using H264, in whatever software you use (keep the total bit rate under 1500, though).

I have started using HandBreak to convert my DVDs.

I am currently using the Linux command line version and wrote a script to mass convert all my DVDs and its doing a really good job and taking about 1/2-3/4 hour to convert 1 DVD.

There are windows and mac versions of the program too.
