using ipod classic as a hard drive without itunes

hi there, i recently bought the 80gb ipod classic, now ive used it and everything is fine, i put music and video on it without a problem, but i have a question.

in itunes i checked the "enable disk use", so now my ipod appears as a removable storage device in "my computer". which is good. but there is a big file i want to move from my computer to my friend's. and i wanted to know if when i connect my ipod to his computer he'll see the ipod in "my computer" as well, or does he need to install itunes for the ipod drivers.

i also know that you have to eject the ipod first before disconnecting it, but i know that you could also do this via the safely remove hardware icon at the system tray.

thx to anyone who helps

ipod classic, Windows XP Pro

The iPod is recognized as an external drive by computers regardless of whether iTunes is installed or not. The only difference between leaving the "enable hard disk" and leaving it unchecked is that after completing a sync, iTunes will eject the iPod from your computer so that you can safely disconnect it. Leaving the "enable disk use" feature checked means that you have to manually eject the iPod.

If iTunes is not installed, then no sync begins and the iPod will simply be treated as an external hardrive. So you should be able to hook your iPod up to your friends computer, drivers will be installed (if it's a Windows computer) and then you can access the iPod as a hardrive.
