How to Connect WIFIwith Linksys Router and WPA Encryption?

I can only connect to my home WIFI with encryption disabled. As soon as I turn on WPA, I get the “Unable to Join Networks” message. Once ina blue moon it asks for a password (mine is 8 characters) but the “join” button is not activated until I enter 10 characters. I’ve been working on this all day yesterday until 1:30 am and again today.

Yikes thats along time to work on that! Ok so i got a linksys too with WPA. I had no problem really joining my network because i got the prompt for the password the 1st time i joined and then the ipod touch has stored that password ever since. I did reset my wifi settings once.and noticed that i had to reenter the password.for my home network. You many want to try that. Go to settings> general> reset> then tap on the reset network settings.

Also make suer your linksys router is broadcasting because then your ipod touch cant join the network.

I would have to guess that even if the join button is still grayed out. I have to guess the password was wrong or that the settings on the router itself has to be reset or changed in some way.I would try checking and reseting the password for the router and make sure the settings are right for the wpa on the router.

Hi had the same problem as you that no matter what I tried could not get the iTouch to connect to my WPA wifi connection until I noticed that the keyboard on the itouch would only show the keys in uppercase (shift would not work to change to lower case) and as my wpa password had one upper case letter and the rest lower case I decided to Change the wpa password on my router to all lower case and it connected no problems at all, this might be your issue.

Hi just to be clear on my previous post have you re-typed your password in lower case on the router? if so this will not be your problem.

Another possible problem might be incorrect settings on the router for WPA (you do not mention if you have any other wireless devices connecting to it that work) have you set the router to WPA personal, also there are two encrytion modes WPA can use I have my router set to both TKIP and AES you should have a section to select both not sure which one the Itouch uses to try to connect to the router if only one is selected in your router and the Itouch uses the other one it will not connect.

Yes, I tried upper-case and lower-case and resetting the passowrd. When that didn't work I tried the key (Ionly have one). Still no luck. Turned WPA encryption off and I can get in just fine. Turn WPA back on and I'm locked out. Do you have Mac filetering on or off? The troubleshooting instructions say to review your MAC filter settings, but of course they don't say what the correct filter setting should be. Mine is currenlty disabled, but I've also tried enabling it. Neither owrks.

I wish Apple would monitor these boards for more than just "image and branding" concerns

Thanks. Somehow I got in for now. My MAC filtering is disabled, but the MAC address of the ipod touch is also stored from when I was playing around. I can't remove it - I even reinstalled Linksys and reset. I guess if MAc filtering is off, it's a moot point. WPA is set to personal. Encryption is TKIP. I don't see a way to turn AES on.
