What is happening is the aluminum is getting polished as the screen frame's aluminum rubs on the computer casing's aluminum...hence no way to get it off...not even with an eraser--sorry to rain on the smart guy above's parade. I was in the apple store today and got a kit with a sheet of plastic that protects the area below the keyboard as well as a sheet of microfiber that protects the keyboard. This is a good investment because not only do I have the polished aluminum marks (definately not pencil, and not erasable), but I can also see spots starting to show up where the keys are rubbing on the monitor screen while the MBP is closed.
