Synching???? who was the genius on this idea?

so this whole synching concept is really not working for anyone i think. why is it a mandatory feature? i have this great iphone, and i can't even use half of the functions. I work on 3 computers, and will be purchasing a 4th soon, and I am not able to use my iphone with them all. but i can use my ipod's with them all. so why the synching? i have already managed to erase all the info on iphone once, and do not want to go through the terror of that again. So my cool iphone is only half the iphone because i cannot load any music on it, or videos. cannot save my calendar info because i synched the iphone to the least used of my computers, and it has none of my photos or music on it. And i am not about to spend hours upon hours loading my music from my other computer to my ipod, and then onto the computer that my iphone is synched to.

When is this problem going to change??? I would like to be able to use my iphone to its fullest without wasting my life away on all of my computers downloading and transfering.

Please help apple!!!

I think if you "uncheck" the items you don't want to snyc you could use different computers without losing info. This happened to me when I fist got my phone and as you did I learned the hard way. To "uncheck" the items you don't want to lose.
It was explained to me that your phone is just a "mirror" of whatever computer you are syncing with so if you "uncheck" those item that you don't want changed, they will remain unchanged.

To an extent will2b is correct. To explain in a little more depth. Turn auto sync off in your iTunes settings and check the manual sync block when you plug your iPhone into your computer. From there you have to make some decisions. The computer that stores your music would then be checked to sync your music/videos. On your work computer you would select to sync your calender/contacts but NOT your music. On another one one you would then have to deselect music/videos; contacts/calender but then add in movies. In other words, what you have checked to manually sync on one computer can NOT be sync'd on another. But you can choose different computers to sync different items. Hope that helps.

Good Luck

I'm not sure what your synching concerns are, but maybe this will help too. My concerns were with synching Outlook. I always kept music on one box but appts and calendar info were on another box. If you install Plaxo (www.plaxo.com) on your PCs you can effectively synch outlook on all your PCs. Therefore, an appt made on one PC will automatically be placed on another PCs outlook (provided of course that you open the app ocassionally). Therefore, if I make an appt on my work computer, Outlook will synch with my home computer, which will then synch with the iPhone. The Plaxo app is really slick, and also gives you the advantage of having all of that info available online from any computer. Plaxo is gaining momentum and I think will be around for a while.

Like I said, don't know if this is your exact issue but it works like a charm for me.
