Help! I've got a locked burn folder I can't get rid of!

The most recent of my attempts to get a CD to burn on my iMac (see related thread) left a locked burn folder on the desktop, which I cannot get rid of.

HELP!

iMac G4, Mac OS X (10.4), partitioned dual-boot with 9; also a Performa 5215 running 8

Select the folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and clear the Locked checkbox. If the box is grayed out, change the owner of the folder to yourself to release it.

If it were THAT simple, I wouldn't be screaming for help; I'd have already done it!

It shows a "locked" badge, and it claims to be locked if I try to put it in the garbage can, but in Get Info, it DOESN'T show as locked: the checkbox for that is neither checked nor disabled.

Checking and unchecking it has no effect. Rebooting has no effect.

I have the same problem. You have to restart your machine and then delete the locked folder. There's no other way. I have no answer yet as to why when I try to burn a CD on my Dual 867, it throws a pad lock on the folder and locks me out of my desktop until a restart. I am the admin on this machine and it still locks me out from buring a CD.

In my case, it wouldn't even let me delete it after several cold restarts.

I talked to an Apple Solutions Expert and he said to just buy a new CD drive for about $40. Said this will clear the problem. I have already replaced the factory drive about a year ago.
The CD drives reads OK, though but will not burn anymore.
Maybe this IS the ONLY way out ;-(

In my case, it's a CD/DVD drive, and DVDs burn just fine. It's just CDs that give me grief.

Was that $40 quote for a CD/DVD drive, or just CD?

I tried a brand new, out-of-the-box replacement CD/Combo drive this weekend. The problem is still there. I, the admin on this Mac, am still locked out of the burn folder. The lock box is still grayed out and I have to restart to get rid of the burn folder o the DT. I am the only one who uses this machine and have not altered by set up in anyway.

Obviously this is a software issue and I'll probably have to stumble over the solution.
