16GB iPod Touch just reset and erased itself

Hi,

This morning I watched a video (all went OK) and then listened to a podcast (again, all went OK).
Then I touched the next podcast episode and my 16GB Touch suddenly reset itself.
I waited for the Apple logo to disappear, to then see the "connect to iTunes" screen, which presumably means that my iPod is now wiped clean.

I will have to wait until I get home to synch it again, which means I now have a very expensive paperweight sitting on my desk.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Charlie

Was this a podcast you subscribed to through iTunes? - If so it would be greatfully helpful to warn us of which one it was which caused this reset.

I have to say I haven't encountered this, but it is strange a podcast would iniciate a full 'reset all content and settings'.

Some weird problems with iPod touch at the moment. Hopefully they'll plug these holes in the firmware, which somehow allow someone to read/write to the touch from the main interface.

They need to plug these quick, before someone exploits them.

Well, after connecting it to iTunes I got a dialog box saying something about sending diagnostic info to Apple (which I did), then the iPod just synced as normal, but it only added NEW content, indicating that my old content was still on the iPod but it had just locked me out until it saw iTunes again.

I tried playing the same podcast episode again and it seemed to work this time.
Not sure if it was a software or hardware fault but I'll keep an eye on it for a while before I decide to return it.

Charlie.
