Iphone jumps back to home Screen

I keep finding different threads on this. Thought I'd list them in one place since it looks like a few random problems 'till you see all the open threads. I ended up getting bored of sorting out which were dupes and such and stopped listing links I found, but suffice it to say that there are a LOT more of these threads than even the ones below.

A few notes. Mostly based on the recommendations that don't work, but seem to keep cropping up in every one of these posts:
- This doesn't only occur in Safari. Happens in the iPod screen (movies or music), YouTube, or Google Maps.
- Doesn't seem to be caused (or exclusively be caused) by having a full iPhone. With plenty of room left, it still occurs.
- Resetting the iPod does help reduce the frequency, but doesn't make it go away.
- Some users report seeing less problems after a restore. It's not clear if the problem actually goes away or just becomes less frequent (like above). My guess is that it just reduces the frequency.

Can I tell by looking on the phone?

Certainly - go to Settings > General > About.

Before do the reset, do you know what is causing this problem?

I'm not sure but this indicates an application crash or shut down of sorts which a Reset usually helps with.

I have the same problem just when trying to email a photo or when I'm on the ipod function it is always happening. Very frustrating. I have 166 mb left. Am I going to lose my photos and/or music if I do the reset ? I do not know how to save my photos on my PC.

How much free storage space do you have available on the iPhone?

First step to try is a simple Reset - press/hold the Home button and Sleep/Wake or On/Off button simultaneously until you see the white Apple logo and then release - this forces a system restart and can take up to 10 seconds so before seeing the Apple logo - ignore the slide to turn off prompt during this process. This does not affect any data or settings.

I have 166 mb left.

Try freeing up some more space to see if this makes any difference - try going with 500MB at least or start out with 1GB or so and then work down. Since the iPhone runs a version of OS X, very limited or no available free space can affect performance - similar to a computer running OS X and the same with Windows.

No - a Reset does not affect and data or settings.

I do not know how to save my photos on my PC.

If there are photos on the iPhone that were taken by the iPhone, the iPhone is also detected and treated as a digital camera when connected to your computer.

If you've transferred photos from a digital camera connected to your computer in the past, the process is the same with the iPhone.

This happens every once in a while for me too. You can reproduce it consistently by going to digg.com. I think safari crashes when you go to a page that is very large. Some of the digg sites go on forever because they have so many comments.

I don't use utube that much so I can't comment on that.
