Storage & Film rolls

I keep photos on my camera, but each time I download the new photos, some of the old ones come (even though I choose NOT to download old photos). Then when i delete them (the thumbnail) from the Library, i still repete copies in my iPhoto file. How can I not waste space with all the duplicates?

Also, when I move photos from Film Roll to Film Roll, it scrolls ridiculously fast. Is there any way to slow the scrolling down?

THANK YOU! 🙂

I have that same problem in iPhoto 5 -- it scrolls the rolls ridiculously fast. Pretty much unusable. Whether I'm moving some photos to another roll, or trying to drag/drop one roll into another. If there's a preference setting in a plist or xml file of iPhoto, I would gladly modify the value, to slow down the maximum rate. I've tried modifier keys (Option, CMD, etc.) and nothing seems to help. I typically close all film rolls (i.e. un-expand their display), to try and prevent this crazy scrolling from taking off, but it still does it. Frustrated; Larry.

Use Image Capture (in your applications folder) to choose which pics to download, download them to the Mac and then import them to iPhoto.

To remove pics from iPhoto you put them into the iPhoto trash and empty the trash iPhoto Menu -> Empty Trash.

I'm afraid there's little to be done about the scrolling speed. It's more of an OS thing really. Workarounds include using the up and down arrow keys, or - as I do - use a kind of looping gesture with the mouse, rather than moving it in a straight line.

I'm totally confused by all the different storage places in iPhoto. I moved photos from camera roll to a specially-named folder. Then I trashed the photos from camera roll so my Mac would stop asking me if I wanted to import them. Now the photos are gone.

Photos seem to import from the camera, go into the 2007 pictures album, the last 12 months album, the camera roll album and stay on the camera. I just want to take a picture, download it onto my Mac in a folder I can find it in, and then delete the photos off my camera, while still be able to see them in the photo section of my iPhone.

Any help is appreciated

Go to iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and check the box at 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.

Now at least we know where your files are going.

After that, you do EVERYTHING in the iPhoto Window.

I just want to take a picture, download it onto my Mac in a folder I can find it in

When you import a pic into iPhoto it will show up in the iPhoto Window. If you want to find use any (or all) of the following: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.

1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.

2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.

3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.

This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS

If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.

If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS

delete the photos off my camera,

iPhoto can do this automatically, but it's best if you use your camera to reformat the card. Why? In case there's a problem with the import. How? Read your camera manual.

while still be able to see them in the photo section of my iPhone.

Don't have an iPhone, but isn't that integrated via iTunes? And iPhoto is too
