So playing with this more... I can repro every time as of right now (who knows what will happen after I reboot). I have Spaces set up with 2 spaces side by side. I use the Ctrl-Left Arrow / Ctrl-Right Arrow keyboard shortcuts to move between spaces.

If I open a brand new window on Safari and Ctrl-Right arrow to Space 2 and then Ctrl-Left arrow back to Space 1 (where my Safari window was) the minimize button goes gray and I cannot minimize anymore.

I have to quit Safari to get it back. But this is not a Safari issue. Same thing happens when I use TextEdit.

Same thing is happening to me with Safari... Not sure what the deal is. I did install an update yesterday or the day before, but don't remember what it was for. Wonder if that did it... If there isn't a fix I can think of something that def. will fix this, use Fire Fox....

Just to add - my powerbook also has a case of the mysterious disappearing minimize button - it's happened in Finder and Firefox so far.

(When the orange button goes grey, Apple+m and double clicking the top bar also stops working)

A quit/force quit and restart of the application brings back the button, and then minimizing is ok again, but I have no idea why it is happening in the first place.

When are they going to fix this? Really annoying? Can't minimize any windows if you use Spaces. Any move to another Space results in the last activate application in the prior space losing its ability to minimize any of its windows.

More info... looks like it only happens for me when I'm running VMware Fusion in another space. In particular, if I have a second space where VMware is Full Screened, switching between that space and another space kills window minimization for all windows, not just safari.

This is exactly what I'm seeing as well. It's pretty annoying. Is there a workaround anyone knows of? Luckily firefox brings you right back to where you were now when you quit and come back in, so it's not that bad, but it is rather annoying none-the-less.

Er sorry, I found this thread through a search on google, and just noticed (after submitting my reply) that it's in the safari forum.

I think this is a problem with quicktime (maybe a bug with the latest version). If you open a QT movie and view in full screen, then quit QT, the buttons come back. This was happening on safari and mail on my machine and they both returned after i quit.

This is happening for me, too. Thanks for finding the cause of this. Not crippling, but annoying. Less so when one understands what's causing it.

I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 & Safari 3.1.1 and I also ran into this problem.

Your tip fixed it. Open a QT movie in full screen, then close. Minimize buttons are back.

Yup, so quicktime was open with an audio file, and then when I exited quicktime I could suddenly minimize all my windows again. I think it is a quicktime related bug.

That is so wierd! I have had this problem for months, mostly in Mail, but in a few other programs.

the quicktime full screen fix works!

I wish Apple would fix this!
