Printing problems PowerMac G4

System:
PowerMac G4 Dual prosessor, 500mhz, 256m ram,

printer:
multiple Epson printers tried. Latest one Stylus CX4800

OS:
Both Jaguar and Pather have been tried (with current updates)

Symptoms:
printer works for awhile and then starts to have problems. The print que will attempt to start and then stop. If pringer is removed from Print setup utility it can not be re-added. If driver software is reloaded it can no longer be found. Epson print utility sees the printer and I can run status functions just fine.

Things I've tried: (in no particular order)
A. reinstalling drivers, both without and with removeing all Epson and printing related preferences and drivers - once the problem starts and I've deleted the printer from the printer list I can NEVER add it again. I've checked under all connection types (USB, and EPSON USB)
B. Fixing disk permissions, before and afeter driver reinstall.
C. Re-installed system software and re-installed printer dirver.
D. Downloaded latest versions from Epson support.
E. Replaced cables.
F. switched USB ports.
