iTunes confuses iPod Touch with iPhone

Hi everybody

If I plug my iPod touch into the computer itunes gives me following warning:

The software requirde for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install iTunes again.

The iPod doesn`t appear in iTunes but charges.

Does anybody have an idea what I did wrong?

Have you got the latest version of iTunes installed? If it's an older version it may have no idea what an iPod touch is, but it is similar to an iPhone, throwing up that message.

I have got the newest iTunes version. I just downloaded it from Apple.com a few hours ago.

Do I have to Install a plugin or something like that?

You must have Service Pack 2 for Windows XP installed. This is a must for iPod touch to br recognised correctly.

i had exactly the same problem as this.
i took it back to where i purchased it and then fixed it for me
when i picked it up they said that it must have accidently been installed with iphone software instead of ipod touch!
strange but they fixed it fine

I boght it online. Is there any possibility to fix it without driving to an Apple store?

my ipod touch worked fine at work until i upgraded to the new itunes. now it can't be seen while plugged in. it charges but doesn't show up in itunes. i have done everything that i have found on the website and still nothing. any suggestions? i also upgraded to the 1.1.3 firmware so i really don't want to have to restore my touch again if i don't have to since i was charged twice for the upgrade (another story all toghether). it still works fine at home. the problem is, i have about 9 days worth of music here at work and i don't want to have to burn all of that to cd's so i can put it on my pc at home.
