GeForce 7800 Vs. ATI X800 XT

OK... Quick and dirty
I really don't know much about present day graphics cards, all I do know is that the 7800 and X800 cost about the same and I have to wait up to 8 weeks longer for the X800.

I do not own a G5 but will be getting one in about 2 weeks. Will the X800 work on the latest batch of G5's including the killer Quad? I do love games but I will be spending alot of my work on transferring those old home movies on various formats (Yes even film) to DVD. My Mini laughed at me when I tried to do this.

Wow... The last time I bought a video card I got a Voodoo 3!!!

Hi BB;

The X800 is AGP based. The new PowerMac is using PCI Express hence you can not use the X800 in them.

So if I were to get a leftover AGP G5, how would it compare:

7800 Vs X800

Still not sure if I will get a leftover or not.

Fill rate in billions of texels per second
7800 GT = 8.0; X800 XT = 7.6

Memory bandwidth billions of megabytes per second
7800 GT = 32; X800 XT = 32

Transform rate in millions of vertices per second
7800 GT = 700; X800 XT = 712

The 7800s don't work in the AGP G5s so the 7800 vs X800 isn't really a fair comparison.

If you get an AGP G5, you'll need to decide between the 6800 GT and the X800 at the top end tier.

For the new PCI-e G5s, the 7800 is currently the only game in town at that price/performance tier.

I realize that it's not a "fair" comparison, but BB asked for a comparison of a "closeout" G5 with the X800 XT to a Dual-Core G5 with the 7800 GT. And it is a realistic scenario a consumer could be choosing between. I was surprised how close the raw performance specs were for the two cards.
