Dvd's won't mount

I read a lot of post about this problem and nothing seems to be resolving.
My superdrive (a pioneer 106d) refuse to mount the dvd-r it just burnt but I can read them on my old titanium. On the g5 the superdrive works well with dvd-rw, cd-r, and with older backup I made on dvd-r (2-3 months ago). And I use different brand of dvd.
If someone of Apple can wake-up and tell us (a lot of people on the net) what's happen and, maybe, if there is a solution, it will be great.

Yes the dvd verify is ok when burned. The dvd is burning with Toast, verified with Toast and it appears on the desktop. When I eject it and then try to open it again it doesn't mount. And it's the same with cheap and expensive brand of dvd. I tried the both. But, strangely, I can mount older dvd-r (before july) of the same brand and burnt in the same way.
Problems, for me, maybe come from :
1 - the superdrive pioneer 106-D (apparently lot's of people seems to have identical problem with this drive). But nobody's can explain this problem : why a lot of 106D around the world stop mounting dvd-r at the same period ?
2 - the new security update for os 10.3.9. Everything goes allright before I update but I read on forums identical dvd's problem with other os (from 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4)

That's odd... Have you tried burning a DVD with Disk Utility?

I have a DVR 106D too. Mine's flashed (don't tell Apple 😉 ) to the latest firmware for this drive. I haven't had any trouble with it, so it may be a drive problem. Have you tried using it with an earlier version of the Mac OS on the same computer?

I didn't try Disk utility to burn a DVD but Toast works well.

I read a lot of things about flashing superdrive and , apparently (as seen on different forum), the problem is still alive with flashed 106D.

And I burned DVD with no problem since I had this G5 from os 10.2.7 to the 10.3.9 with all the updates between 10.3 to 10.3.9.

Except now when I can't mount dvd-r I've just burned.

Add me to the list. G4, 10.2.8, flashed Pioneer DVR 106D to firmware revision 1.08, problem started with original firmware rev. 1.07 (thought it would get resolved....nope). Toast and Finder burn the DVD just fine, verifies, mounts.....and never mounts again. No error message, nothing. It also does not mount in OS 9.2.2, which makes me believe it could actually be the drive... Highly annoying, as it makes the drive useless for backing up on DVD.

hi guys
just an update from my last post, when I said dvd movie I was refering to commercial movies not dvds I had made on the G5 although one or two of them also locked up and would not mount.
But the main point I want to let you know about is the problem seems to have fixed itself. All discs are mounting now. the dvds i had problems with are also mounting and backup that wouldn't mount before now mounts and data on it is correct. leading me to believe it was a software glitch. 😉
Robert.

Pls forgive If I am being redundant. I see many post on this but no solution beyond one person Robert saying that is "fixed itself".

I too am having the problem of DVD won't mount on a dual 2Ghz G5. Superdrive just won't recognize a DVD. Any DVD! Purchased commercial DVDs that work on all other players in the house, NetFlix, and HP dvd+r 8x blanks...

Music CDs are fine and CDs burnt by the superdrive are fine.

Just not DVDs

Is there a solution to this out there?

I have been reading this topic as we have something very simular. Sorry if I may be distracting everyone.
We don't use DVDs very much as all data is backed up, however, they are becoming a great way to restore work very quickly.
Everything works fine on the G5s which is where they where the DVDs are burnt from, but it "kind of works" on the G4 Mirror Dual Processors. What I mean is the first one did mount after a few minutes they second after restarting, then nothing. No disc is spinning. This is the same on all G4s working in OSX 10.3.8.
Then I switched to an old hardrive using OSX 10.3.3 onto a G4 Mirror, and it works perfectly and mounts in seconds.

Could anyone please help in how to get the G4 Mirror to read DVD data.

Many thanks,
Karl.

Same thing with me. However it happens when I burn any type of dvd (dvd+r, dvd-r, dvd+rw, etc.) CD's work, but it seems as though the drive isn't even attempting to read the disk.

I have just tested, and it spins up more when I insert the disk upside down than when the shiny side is down. Could this mean that the lasers don't detect anything being in the drive?

I need these files for school, and many are older, so they are the only copy I have. I can open them on my pc laptop (finally found a use for it), but it shouldn't be like this. Can we hear something from Apple? Maybe someone that knows their stuff about these issues?
