I'm having sort of the same problem with mine. When I plug it in, a screen pops up that says my ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. When I try to restore it, it gets about half way through then says an unknown error occurred and everything closes out. Did you ever find any help for your problem?
Having same issue - Half the time, Itunes doe not recognize that my ipod is connected. when it does see it, it asks me to do a restore, I then try, the restoring bar freezes and then I get an error message, Error #1148
i tried putting my ipod into disk mode but it still didn't work. when i plug it in, it says 'use the ipod software updater application to restore to factory settings' and i have no idea what that is..
one of the other forums on here posted some advice and i followed it and it worked! it showed up in itunes and i didnt even have to restore it, it acts like it does when you plug a new ipod into the computer..try it!
*connect it to your computer, and in Device Manager or My Computer right click on it, select disk management, and format it (FAT32, not a quick format) then Restore it in iTunes.*
