In Toast 6/7 Titanium, use Video and DVD-video from VIDEO_TS option (on the left side drawer), select/drop the VIDEO_TS folder, then burn.
I've used Mac-the-ripper to rip a DVD and I'm using Toast Titanium to burn it to Sony DVD-R media. I've already burned other video to this media and it plays on my home DVD player, but now I'm doing VIDEO_TS for the first time. I have the name in all caps without spaces. Everything I can think of is right, but the results will only play on my computer - I've tried 2 different home DVD players, and both say "cannot play". Any ideas?

Yeah - that's what I did. I end up with a perfect DVD for playing on my computer, but one that will not play anywhere else. I'm stumped.

In that case, I suspect the DVD players do not like your DVD recodable media. What kind, brand did you use ? Not all DVD players accept all types of recordable media. Most people find Verbatim DVD-R to be a good brand.
As my original message says, I'm using Sony DVD-R media. It's not exactly a knock-off generic. There is no reason this should not be working that I can see. Besides, as I've said, I have used the same blanks to burn DVDs other ways and they can be played just fine in my home DVD player.
Agreed, originally, I thought you might have burned the DVD in the wrong "data" format as oppose to "DVD-video" format, which makes it playable in computer but not in home player. As you comfirmed later you burned it with "DVD-video", then the other factor would be the media, since it is playable on a computer, so it is a good burn, then it would be the home DVD player that does not accept this media for some reasons.
Well, accept that - like I've said - I've played this media successfully in my home DVD player on many other occasions - though not from a VIDEO_TS burn. I've been able to do DVD-Video burns, but not DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS. That's the only problem I'm running into.
Perhaps you want to try Roxio Toast discussion forums for assistences since it is Toast that you used to burn the DVD:
Michael,
when opening the the DVD's information window in finder - what does finder say about the disk's format?

It says, "Universal Disk Format". I'm new to this sort of thing, but that sounds like a good thing, right?
UDF is completely correct - anything else would prevent the disk to run correctly on a standalone player.
Well then it really is "unexplainable" that my DVD won't play on a standalone player... and like I've said, I've tried it in two different players.
Would you mind testing another brand of blanks?
