Please post RAM successes, failures HERE

Like the subject says, if you purchase RAM from a third party, please post it here, including brand/model#/size/place purchased/price. You may want to indicate if the RAM says it was specifically G5 compatible. If this is not listed we will assume it did not state G5 compatibility. Also, please do not list multiple entries for the same product unless your experience differs from what has been posted.

Here is an example of RAM others have already reported on.

NOT COMPATIBLE - Corsair Value Select PC3200 512MB from newegg.com for $84

COMPATIBLE - Crucial 512MB PC3200 (CT322476) for Power Mac G5 direct from Crucial for $93.99

Kingston and Viking both make DDR333 and DDR400 kits specifically for the G5. Both brands are considered high-end/premium and come with a lifetime warranty. Make sure you buy the memory specifically branded for the G5 (Kingston KTA-G5xxx/xxx for example).

Some money can be saved by searching for the kits at your favorite online retailers. This store, in particular, has a 512MB Kingston kit (DDR400) for $110 ( http://store.comptick.com/kta-g5400-512.html).

I can say that the 2 pairs of Crucial CT352879 512MB that I bought direct from Crucial for $87.99 (free 2nd day air) work perfectly. When I opened system profiler the memory has the same specs as the pair of 256MB sticks that it shipped with! I have read in previous posts that it take a little effort to seat the modules in the board. I would like to ammend that by saying that it takes a LOT of effort to seat them! In fact my thumb still has an indentation from trying to seat them. Reading the 120 plus posts of success, annd failure I felt that it was worth spending an extra $50.00 for Crucial. Definately kicks up the speed of my G5.

Hi-
I recently purchased a 1 Gig DDR400 128bit kit from RAMJET. So I got 2, 512mb chips and installed them 4 days ago. Last night and today everything started going wrong. My system was having kernel panics and other system problems. I ran the Hardware test and found an error with the memory I got from RAMJET, 2MEM/1/4:DIMM2/J13 was the error code. I removed both chips and reran the Hardware test and now everything is fine, no more memory errors. Now the RAM I purchased from RAMJET was the "ELIXIR" RAM that another user posted as incompatible with the G5. I am so glad I found this forum, I thought I was going crazy! I'm buying my next RAM from Crucial...

2 experiences, and something unusual.
(don't recall, I think it said compatible)GEIL, 2 x 256 upgrade from newegg.com - Failed.
(Compatible)OWC 2 x 512 upgrade from other world computing - Success.
-Unusual - my refurb 1.8 DP shipped to me with 2 x 512 chips instead of just the listed 2 x 256 - NOT that I'm complaining - one of which read Samsung, the other one was not branded as far as I could tell.
Obviously, the RAM from newegg.com is going back.

We purchased 40 1.8ghz g5s here. We got 512mb of RAM to upgrade them to 1gig. The extra RAM we bought was Kingston the included RAM Samsung. Now, at first glance everything was running ok on these systems. Then DVD playback and encoding problems started happening and random crashes when using things like Shake. I found a post that said you could not mix and match RAM in the G5s. I consolidated all the RAM so only Samsung or only Kingston was in each machine, and voila, no more problems.

Buy the same kind of RAM for your machines people, save yourself the pain!!!!

I purchased RAM through the Curcial site using their selection tool to add two 512 sticks without any problems period. It is silly to try to save 10 dollars where the aggravation factor could be outrageously high. The memory looks a little different, with a small chip under each main memory chip, on the stick that I have typically seen on previous PC memory.

I'm in the middle of testing my 1.6 G5 with 2-512 2700 DDR & 2-256 3200 ram, the 512's I bought at a Local computer store and the 256's I bought off of newegg.com (corsair memory) the Longest test indicated (AHT) that everything is fin, ram passed, I am now doing the quick test, then I will shutdown at do another extended test.

I just want to make sure everything is ok.... with all of the tests but everything seems A-OK!

I finished all of the testing and everything is working fine! I am on the computer right now writing this and crunching Seti Units, BTW my eMac took 12 Hrs to finish unit, The G5 takes 4 Hrs....

G5 1.6 Single ; Mac OS X (10.3.x); 1.5 Ram, 80 Gig HDD

I had the same EXACT problem with my "Free" RAM from MacMall. I removed it and the green artifacts disappeared from DVD playback.. I also noticed that with the RAM in, I also had many corrupt JPG file transfers from my USB compact flash card reader, another problem which disappeared after I removed it. MacMall is sending me replacement RAM, that is supposed to be Viking.
