Japanese Keyboard

I have just installed Leopard - which for the most part is sweet.
But I can't change the keyboard.
The instructions in help don't help.. - the options it says aren't available.
I have unplugged and replugged... but no joy.

any ideas?

I seem to be having the same problem with my wireless JIS keyboard since upgrading to Leopard. I tried both terminal options suggested by Tom but nothing has improved. I have a PowerBook G4 with a built-in US keyboard and again I use a JIS Japanese wireless keyboard.

The strange thing is, the JIS wireless keyboard is mapped correctly when I do English input. For instance the @ key next to the p key is correctly mapped but when I change to Japanese input the keyboard reverts to a US keyboard mapping. For example the @ key becomes the [ key like on the built-in US keyboard. This JIS keyboard not being mapped for romaji Japanese input is really strange and honestly hard to deal with when typing Japanese.

When I look at the keyboard viewer the first keyboard that shows is the built-in keyboard then touching any key on the wireless JIS keyboard it the keyboard viewer changes to the JIS keyboard. On top it shows "Keyboard Viewer" (U.S.)

I also removed /Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboardtype.plist suggested by some people but no improvements as well. It's gone I hope I didn't do more irreparable damage...

To solve this problem any help will greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Jonathan
