Is there a way to listen to the audio with the new front row in leopard over airtunes like you could in tiger. I was very disappointed to find out after installing the new operating system that using front row only uses the speakers on my macbook instead of streaming it to my airport express.
Frontrow 1.0 just opened iTunes in the background, iTunes handles all of the streaming to the airport express. Frontrow 2.0 is not using itunes to playback audio, my guess is it is using Core Media player similar to what is on the iPhone. I tried to use Airfoil to stream system audio to the express but there is a huge latency.
The 10.5 beta, it prompted me to update on launch. Just in case I downloaded the preview again from Rogue's site. It is like a whole second or two off. Big time latency.
Hi there. I am using iTunes, AirTunes and Front Row, too. Today I've installed Leopard and encountered the same unpleasant change. I too would be glad if apple made AirTunes available to Front Row. I really loved this feature. But where do I post such a request? 😟.
I tried airfoil 2.1 for leopard and it seems to work fine when set to system audio as the source. The latency doesn't bother me so much but the $25 for an option that apple should have included seems a bit much. I'll keep hoping for a future update to correct the problem.
Answer from apple support hotline : unfortunately there is no way to use airtunes via frontrow. Maybe apple will change this with the next updates as many people are complaining about it.
What they seem to have done is take the version of Front Row in 10.5 from the Apple TV. They didn't do their homework (user requirement capture) very well unfortunately and this, for me, critical feature was omitted.
I use a MacMini as a Media Centre, PVR and TV (using EyeTV and a 30in LCD). I use FrontRow to watch films, videos, photos and listen to music. I have 3 speakers systems around the house and when I'm working on the house I like to send the audio all round the house.
I have downgraded to 10.4.10.
A word of caution, don't try to install 10.4 over 10.5 using Archive and Install. The result is a mess of 10.4 and 10.5 applications and utilities, half of the apps won't launch and the ones that do may cause system issues. In the end I had to erase 10.5 and install 10.4.
Although I am delighted that Front Row now is a more grown-up application (no longer a simple front-end to iTunes/iPhoto), I am very disappointed that there's no 'audio options' inside the settings.
I am Front-Row to control my mac from the couch and bought my AirPort Express especially for this, to play my music collection over my HiFi. I think this should be solved (shouldn't be too much of a problem?)
