'Shared' missing from sidebar in Finder??

'Shared' is missing from sidebar in Finder, i.e Devices, Places and Search For are there but Shared is missing??

I've gone into Finder Preferences/Sidebar and all of the Shared devices are ticked. i.e. Back to My Mac, Connected Servers and Bonjour Computers.

Is this a bug or am i missing something?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5)

I Managed to get the Systems back. Here's what I did.

Open System Prefs.
Click Sharing.
Make sure system has a computer name. i.e. "bob"
Click Edit
Change local Hostname to "bob.local" (this will change the NETBIOS name for you in networking)
Make sure Use Dynamic global hostname is checked
Make sure Hostname = "bob."
Click Advertise services in this domain using Bonjour
Click Ok
Click Show All then Network
Click on your ethernet device than click the Advanced Tab
Turn Configure IPv6 to "Off"
Click ok

Now devices should show up under "Shared" in the finder sidebar and in "Network"

is it just 'shared' that is missing? when I add an ext HDD or insert a CD/DVD they appear on my desktop but not in any finder window unless they are attached/inserted during system boot. this has only just started happening.
at the same time verifying the system disk throws up all sorts of permissions errors that repairing does not fix...

looks like a full re-install, unless someone has a bright idea

also just noted :
Aperture created files are now Locked by default - this is wrong and wasn't the case when i first installed leopard
Aperture Library has loads of errors which rebuilding the library does not fix
Cannot edit my Address Book in any way

All these seem to point to permission issues - can anyone shed light?

I was also unable to browse SMB shares from the finder after upgrading to Leopard (including 10.5.1). I opened the console and check the appfirewall.log and saw the following:

Nov 17 08:02:20 [hostname removed] Firewall[39]: Deny nmblookup data in from [ip address removed]:137 uid = 0 proto=17

The application firewall was blocking communication from the master browser on my network.

After completely disabling the firewall (had to allow all incoming connections, which may not be advisable for all folks) my SMB shares are browsable once again.

This may not be the definitive solution for everyone, but it's allowed me to work around the issue.
