Restore Back-Up from Lacie External Drive

Exactly how did you backup your system to the Lacie drive? Did you clone the system using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper? Or are they just files one the HD?

I put this in your other thread...

Boot up on your backup (using the option key), use Disk Utility to erase the internal disk, use SuperDuper! to "backup" your backup disk back to the internal disk, then restart on the internal disk. You should be back to where you were when you made the original backup. In theory. 🙂

Just go to System Preferences->Startup Disc and select the drive that's got the clone on it (no the Option key is the Alt key BTW) once you've booted into the drive that's got the clone then open SuperDuper and choose it as the "Copy" drive and select your Mac drive as the "to" drive. Make sure you've made it bootable and let it clone the clone back to your Mac's HD.

I believe SuperDuper will erase your Mac's HD before it clones the drive back so you should be good to go. So yes SuperDuper will overwrite the drive with Leopard on it and install from the destination drive whatever is on it back to the Mac HD.

I have a LaCie drive and created a bootable clone using LaCie's free software, SilverKeeper 1.1.4
It makes a perfect bootable clone which I have booted into and even ran as an external drive. It also appears to have included my Vista install in the clone.
I used the 800 MHz FW port and it took about 1/2 hour to backup 60 Gigs.
