Importing at 128kbps AAC is not working!!!!

I just bought a brand new Mac about a week ago, I also just recieved the update for the new OS (Leopard). Now I am importing CD's into iTunes at 128 kbps AAC and there are bit rates coming up like 127 kbps and 133 kbps. Variable bit rate is unchecked, i redownloaded iTunes after updating my OS and am still expiriencing this problem. Previous to Leopard I never had this issue! HELP!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5)

I should have said it makes the process more complicated and more time-consuming. Jointogether won't join m4a files with passthough if the bitrates are different. JT 5.13 also appears to have a bug, which has been reported in ilounge, as it gives error codes when trying to encode m4a's. I'm sticking with JT 5.12 for now.

I haven't seen Audiobook Builder before, but I dislike having to dish out money for yet another piece of software to do something that was easy enough to do with only JoinTogether before the "updates."

I believe I have tried everything on this message board to get Quicktime 7.3 off my harddrive. Even this most recent suggestion of deleting the ItunesX receipt. I can't get QT 7.3 off my harddrive. HOW DO I DO IT, WITH EVERY LAST STEP?

Because it is still there, I can't install 7.2.

I've been reading about how Itunes has never truly delivered 128 kbps. But, when I import at 128, I am sometimes getting as low as 100 kbps. And it's not set at VBR. The difference between 100 and 128 IS audible.

1. How can I REALLY and FULLY get QT 7.3 off my harddrive, so I can deal with this kbps issue?
2. When is Apple likely to correct this issue?

Thank you.

Yes, I did read the entire thread.
Most people (including you) are simply complaining that it does not read 128 or 256 or whatever they have selected, not that they are having any problems.

One person has a smart playlist that doesn't work with a specific bitrate selected. That is easily solved by setting it to *bitrate is greater than* instead of *bitrate equals*.

Again, what problems (apart from looks) are there? Does it sound worse, is the file size diffferent, do the files not work or fail to load onto the iPod, what?

I think I may be able to answer my own query here. I believe it's because both of those songs I listed have a large gap of silence (i.e., there's a hidden song). So iTunes (or QT) must be accounting for this based on amount of audible information and downscaling it very low? Very weird. I wonder if the actual music is being meddled with, or it's as some have said here the Average Bit Rate and because there's so much silence the ABR is much lower?
