Sound Quality - Compression

It appears to me that some sort of compression has been applied to the sound on the new classic. I don't get the punch like I used to in regard to my songs from the bass drum. I have the EQ set to Flat as I did with my iPod 5th Gen player. I tried adding the Bass Booster and the Rock setting on my EQ and those settings are just too BOOMY!

Trust me after listening to Genesis and some other bands for the past 20yrs I know every nuance and how the drums should sound to my ears, in my car, with my audio system and the drums sound compressed.

Anyone else?
