There is no replacement to NetInfo manager... NetInfo is gone as of Leopard.

What specifically are you trying to do?

The NIS stuff indicates there's something set in Directory Utility... if you're not using NIS, you can delete any entries there (was this an upgrade install?).

If you want to tweak some user settings that used to require NetInfo manager, you can tweak the flat files. You can also change a number of user settings (User ID, groups, etc.) by right clicking on an account in the accounts pane... an "Advanced Settings..." option will pop up.

I fixed this by:
Opening Directory Utility.
Click padlock and authenticate.
Click Show Advanced settings.
Click Services in the title bar.
Select BSD Flat File and NIS.
Click the pencil (above the padlock).
Enter (without the quotes): "local." in the Domain name field.
Click OK.
Click Apply.
The Console messages then stopped coming out.

[EDIT] Actually, this only changed the message to: YP server for domain local. not responding, still trying

Deleting the /etc/defaultdomain file worked for me too - didn't even need to log out or restart, as, presumably, launchd is periodically testing for the presence of this file, and if it ain't there it don't do anything.

This is on an archive and install, so not sure how I ended up with this file if others aren't seeing it on an archive and install.

This seemed to stop if for me as well for a bit, then after a reboot it started up again with the new error as well:

Nov 28 21:13:04 dualg4 ypbind[533]: dead domain local.
Nov 28 21:13:14 dualg4 com.apple.DirectoryServices[23]: YP server for domain local. not responding, still trying

I wonder if I should set the domain to my machine's FQDN...?
