Replacing PhotoShop Elements for Leopard

My PhotoShop Elements 2.0 does not work on Leopard. It was great on Tiger. Over on the installation thread, many users confirmed the problem. Version 4.0 doesn't work, either. Adobe apparently plans no fix.

So... can anyone suggest a good Leopard-compatible replacement for PSE? I'm using an iMac (Power PC) G5. I don't need the heavy duty, full blown PhotoShop, but I do need more features than iPhoto has.

Thanks.

I'd like to take this topic back up:

besides another major issue, here is my oberservation on Elements 4 after upgrading to Leopard:

-no problems on my PB 12 G4
-won't work or be installes (error message: postflight script missing) on my G5, though it would work on the G5 if run off the PB. but as I said, does not allow for a reinstall.

To see, if the problem was caused by corrupted files, I performed a system install on a previously reformatted partition, only for that purpose. Even with this juvenile system I encountered this problem.

Any recent suggestiona or observations?

Well, I even used a newly formatted clean partition and it did not work, on which I installed a "virgin" copy of first 10.5, then went back to 10.4. At this time not even with a clean install of 10.4, under which it ran flawlessly until installation of 10.5, will let it access. What stuns me ist that it will run on the Powerbook G4. Also, another scanner attached will work.

I had just recleaned the partition, installed 10.4, the latest version of Epson software.... just won't work. Image capture does see the scanner, but will not connect. Another observation: photoshop elements will not install on the machine, but will boot over a network connection from my powerbook. weird..... trying to install will render the error file missing: postflight script, whatever that is.

BTW Vuescan and Silverfast will not get it either. I connected the scanner to different usb port, checked its functionality on other machines. I have no clue whatsoever why these two objects: 3170 and PSE 4 would not funtion anymore. There were a few of the usual minor glitches on other programs, but nothing to cause concern, the usual little bits while upgrading. Considering my problems with Magicmovie 08, this is my very worst year with Apple since the old Apple II days....

I was not able to install CS2 or PSE 4. It crashed without loading. I checked the console log and saw a lot of messages about errors when trying to read/open the foreign language bundles at /system/library/TextEncoding. On a guess, I used Time Machine and replaced the entire TextEncoding folder. It worked and I was able to install PSE 4 for Mac. Don't know if this is useful to anyone but, this is what allowed me to install PSE.

Reviewing the Console log shows dosens of remarks about languages not exisiting. Even "en"! I intentionally did not install the "Additional Languages" but I certainly have English! TextEncodings lists "Western Language Encodings.bundle" and "Unicode Encodings.bundle" but I don't think that really is where the English 'language' resides.

I downloaded the PSE 4 Installer and it works on Tiger and a PPC iMac.

It simply ends with a '...install step failed: run postflight script..." message on Leopard and an Intel (see sig for hardware/OS stats).

This upgrade is getting to be quite frustrating; Adobe seems totally uninterested in the Mac, installers won't, some say PSE 4 runs on Leopard and PPC, others say it runs on Intel and Leopard, some even report using PSE 4.0.1. Who would like to come over to my house and get this app to work for me? I'm about to give up!!! :-|

Did you do a custom install of leopard? Did you omit the BSD underlayer (if that's still optional in leopard)? Did you remove any languages or use a program like monolingual?

I can only assure you that the overwhelming majority of people are able to get PE 3 and 4 working in leopard, regardless of processor, so we need to figure out what it is about your setup that it doesn't like.

I gave up on PSE and did not try to install it after reinstalling my system. Thus I cannot make a comment on which reinstall procedures would work. I found picelmator to suit my needs, so I am going to use that one instead. Sorry, but I've lately become very quick about changing software, if a company does not come up to supplying a working solution in time.
