VPN password and Keychain

Hi,
I was used in 10.4 that the password was automatically send by the built-in VPN client.
Since I upgraded to 10.5 I always have to enter my password when I connect to my VPN.

Bug or feature?

No it's not a bug. In fact it is a feature.

Before Leopard, Internet Connect was used to establish a VPN connection. In your keychain your VPN password is by default protected so only Internet Connect can use it.

In Leopard your VPN connection is made by another system application (pppd / racoon) and that application has no right to use that password.

The most easy and safe way to correct this is to make a new connection and delete the old one.

You can also give all applications access to your old password in the keychain (see Access Control for your password in the Keychain) but that is not safe.

Best regards,
Patrick

Didn't work for me. I removed the VPN entry in the Network system pref panel, then removed the keychain entry associated with it. Then added a new PPTP VPN configuration, and entered the password by clicking the 'authentication settings' button. This caused a new 'PPP Password' entry in the keychain.

However, after doing all this, I still get an 'Internet Connect' titled window prompting me for the username and password - along with an icon for the Internet Connect.app which no longer appears to exist under Leopard. If I enter the same password that is already stored in the keychain, I get a connection. If I don't, then it fails with ;

pppd 9233: MS-CHAP authentication failed: E=691 Authentication failure

..in the syslog.

Me thinks a bug affecting those who did an upgrade from Tiger.
