What audio out channel do you normally use? With my Mac Pro, in the Leopard boot, the sound to external speaker was deselected, and the internal did work well with the Funk sound I use.
Can either of you connect external speakers, or possibly earphones, use audio via line out, and test this? With my Mac Pro, it seems that only the internal speaker is missing the email receipt sound?
Can some of you please test with something other than the Internal speaker? If this is a bug, we will need to report the info if it is limited to the internal speaker. I cannot rely on my experience with the Mac Pro, since it is a bit odd on sound, anyway (startup chime seems limited to the internal no matter the setting).
I've had my external speakers plugged in to my MBP since the day I upgraded and I've never heard anything when new mail arrives. All other sounds work as advertised.
HI there Eric , I have been using the internal speakers since I got my new IMac. The sound for incoming mail has always for me been sporadic, even with my external speakers. I am now using internal speakers, and the other day it just wasn't working, so as I have done before. I went into the sounds in system preferences, unchecked, the speakers I was using, changed the sound effect, from play new sound to something else, then changed them back to the way they were and it was working again. I have been doing that for over a year. And have sent a report to Apple a few times. Odd to have to that type of work around. I hate work around . It should just work or not. Ileen
I have been playing with every sound setting I can find, all with no results. This worked perfectly in Tiger, and all other sounds work fine. It's only the new mail alert that is not working. No matter which sound I choose, it doesn't play anything.
