Mouse clicks developed a trigger finger

My mouse recently developed a hair trigger finger. I click once and my TiBook recognizes it as a double click. I have to use the lightest touch to get the system to recognize a single click. This happens on all applications. Sometimes I merely hover the cursor over a button and the application reads it as click. I have sent emails before they were ready. Applications close accidently. I click on blank space in a text field and entire lines are highlighted. I click the back button on my browser, and it goes back 2 pages, not 1. This happens with Safari, Firefox, Camino, and Opera. All of my software is up-to-date.

This started when the local Apple Store was kind enough to help me with a problem. My screen had somehow been reset to dim and audio to near mute. The screen was so dark that I couldn't tell if my Powerbook was on or off. The local Apple Store got it working and reset the settings to factory spec. They went to Terminal and entered:

reset-nvram Enter
reset-all Enter

Ever since then, the mouse has had a hair trigger finger. I've tried changing the mouse settings in System Preferences, including Double Click speed, as well as the Logitech Control Center. I reinstalled the Logitech software (I use an MX 700 wireless). But nothing works.

G4 Powerbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10), Logitech MX 7oo
