AppleTV instead of DVR

You can record tv programs on the computer with the EyeTV software (you need a little box or plug to convert your cable or DVB signal) which will automatically convert it to ATV format.

While on the computer you can watch the shows live or with a timelag, on ATV you will have to wait until the recording is finished and the conversion is done (which takes approx. as long as the show itself).

The Elgato devices work with Macs, not AppleTV.

AppleTV's USB port is diabled for some reason so you can't use things like an Elgato USB stick on it. A Mac Mini might fit the bill, and there are rumours of new models coming out soon.

Well, this *****. Apple TV feels really crippled. I can understand an iPod's need to sync, but Apple TV completely missed the opportunity here.

I expected Apple TV to be able to:
1. Act as iTunes (for me to purchase content directly via Apple TV)
2. Have DVR/PVR peripherals (for me to replace a cable company set top box for DVR/PVR functionality), and be able to sync this content to my Mac Pro server.

why would you expect number 2 when at no point has it ever been advertised as that ? sounds like another person that didn't do any research and then complains when it doesn't do something that they though it would.
