While I'd love for this question to be answered, it isn't for me. I am printing from Photoshop CS3 and there is nothing like what is described in this answer. I have attempted to "reinstall" the drivers again and again. In System Preferences, when I add the printer and am to select a driver (it automatically chooses the Canon IJ Printer), there are only two others (Canon Pro9000, Canon Pro9500 series) for canon.
After the Canon IJ Printer driver is chosen, when you select the "options and supplies" button, then the "driver" tab, the Canon MP530 bar is greyed and in the dialog box below says that "To take full advantage of your printer's options, confirm that they are accurately shown here. For more information on your printer and its optional hardware, check the printer's documentation." There are no printer options listed below this text.
I've reinstalled the whole package from the printer's CD with no remedy. I've downloaded new drivers from the Canon site, all with similar results.
When I went ahead and chose to print my Photoshop file, without any options to select the paper quality or print quality, I get a really rough image, with very little ink, on my glossy photo paper, what can only be described as a low res rough draft.
The Apple knowledge database findings said to look for printer utility in the untilities folder. While there is one in my OS 10.4.9 utilities folder, there is none in Leopard. I can't run the printer utility from OS 10.4 in Leopard (it quits) and when I venture into the /library/application support/printers/Canon folder, the set up assistant in there does not work although the Canon printer utility will operate to do printer maintenance.
Color me unhappy.
