How to unlock Safari?

Safari has become locked. It does not respond when tapping anywhere in the browser. Scrolling up/down is the only thing that works. All other functions on the Touch appear to be OK. How can I unlock-unfreeze Safari?

have you tried re-booting the device?

press and hold the top button until you are asked if you want to turn it off.
