Keyboard issues while installing Windows XP with Bootcamp

I think that the wireless keyboard (new alu one) works under vista, at least (got bothered all the time using it with xp). During installation of vista today my keyboard got recognised and i could use it without any problems.
Vista works well since then, only that my keyboard stopped working after installing the Apple Bootcamp Drivers off the Leopard Install DVD (as described in the bootcamp manual pdf).

So i think, that there is something wrong with the drivers by apple included on the dvd.
I was not able to fix this, e.g by reinstalling the original vista bluetooth drivers, but will report on it, as soon as i´ve made any progress on it.

I finally found out how to get the wireless keyboard to work in vista.

Here is what i did:

doubleklick the small bluethooth icon in the menu bar (bottom right)
in the new window klick "add..." to add your device
follow the steps to setup your device, press the power button on your keyboard while the assistant is searching for bluetooth devices
when the assistant found your keyboard choose the automatic-key-option (first checkbox)
your keyboard will the be added as a new device (this took a moment to finish)
now select the keyboard from the devices list and klick properties
cklick the services tab
click the checkbox for the one service found (driver for keyboard and mouse, HID) and it will install
finally click the accept button and you´re done

I just upgraded my Intel Mac to 10.5 this morning & did the upgrade of Boot Camp too.

It used to be that when booting in PC mode, the system wouldn't recognize me holding the Option button on my Blue Tooth keyboard, but if I was booted in Windows, the keyboard (and Blue Tooth mouse) worked fine.

Now, when booting the system recognizes that I have the Option key held down, but once I complete the boot in XP, the keyboard & mouse are not working. In investigating, I see that the Blue Tooth driver isn't loading. I've tried updating / repairing the drivers from the 10.5 DVD multiple times & did the Apple Software Update from XP, but nothing helps. So, unless I can find out what is going on with the driver not loading, I can only used wired devices.

I spent hours with Apple Care because my XP Disk would not install and it would hang on reboot. I came to this discussion area and found the solution. I plugged Mouse into right side of keyboard instead of back of iMac and voila! windows is now loading on my iMac. Thanks for the help

I am having problems too. Everything ran fine under beta Boot Camp but I am unable to have a functioning keyboard when installing XP (Professional with Service Pack 2). I get to the point where I have to press enter to continue but can get no further.

I have tried with no other USB devices connected, keyboard plugged into different sockets, mouse/no mouse connected....... but always the same zero response from the keyboard.

This is driving me potty. Would be nice to have some kind of response from Apple.

Hi, do you have an external modem? I do and discovered it cause major problems during installation and booting. After Boot Camp/Windows is up and running, one can plug the external modem into the USB port and everything is fine. In updating with Leopard drivers, I forgot and left the modem plugged in. I had to trash Windows and start all over as this locked my computer! Good luck, Jim

Thanks for the info regarding an external modem. I use a Netgear router and I have yet to try unplugging that while XP installs. I'll give it a go when I get a minute - fingers crossed!

Great idea about the external modem, JAVH! I had got XP installed previously and the OS ran OK but the Apple drivers installer froze every time I tried it. So, the keyboard eject and volume keys etc. didn't work in Windows. Rebooted without the external modem attached, which I too had forgotten about, and the Apple drivers then installed without a problem. Everything seems to work fine now. Didn't have to reinstall Windows.

Having the same problem with blue setup screens from Windows XP. I have tried connecting a usb keyboard with no results. Do I need to remove the windows partition and start from scratch? Just can't imagine why the built-in keyboard on my MacBook Pro would not work... Any ideas?

Hi, I'm another person with the same problem! Using a Macbook running 10.5.1. When trying to install XP, the keyboard doesn't repond on the blue installation/setup screens. Lights don't come on if I press caps lock or num lock keys either. Any solutions yet??

You will have solved this by now but for others, you have to use a windows keybpoard and not the new apple keyboard for home XP. I borrowed a friends and inserted it into another USB port levaing the apple connected. I used the nopn aplpe keyboard during the eaaly stages of the windows installation. At some point I noticed that my new apple keyboard was working and then I disconnected the non apple keyboard. I had to use a USB mouse until I installed the boot camp drivers after windows was running. The using bluetooth, I paired it with the mightly mouse.

I tried to use a windows keyboard with no effect. It acted no differently than an apple keyboard. No response from buttons of any kind so I could not move forward with the install. Any other ideas?

I found some shareware that will allow you to hold the control key while clicking to right click hope this helps everyone.

Same here, not keyboards work at all. No mice or trackpad either. In fact no USB at all when booting into windows, which renders windows useless. I sure hope they get a fix for this, it's frustrating.
