Where are the Network Drive icons mounted?

In Tiger when I mount a Network share, I got an icon on the desktop.

In Leopard when I mount a Network share... nothing.

I have to go to...

Finder -> Go menu -> Computer ( shift command C )

Ok then I get a window which show all my mounted hard drives, external drives, and network shares.

*Why are they not showing up on the desktop??*

They're listed in any Finder Window under "SHARED".

Also, go to the Finder and choose Preferences from the Finder menu - check to make sure that it's checked to show "connected servers" under the General preference tab.

I already knew that.

That's the answer! All I wanted was to see them mounted on the desktop as Network disk icons. Thank-you!

Well... I love the "idea" too.

I have many Macs and many projects going on simultaneously. If I don't have that file icon or whatever sitting on the desktop staring at me... it's forgotten too quickly.

Yeah my desktops are a mess with too many icons but it's so satisfying when I finally get around to clearing it off.

And not seeing the Network share on the desktop is very jarring. I consider it to be like any other disk drive or external device... just expecting it to be sitting there. Then go bye-bye when I eject it.

The cited ANSWER needs some clarification. When you go to Finder -> Preferences, there are two places to ensure "Connected Servers" is enabled. The one under General tab will put the share icon on your desktop. The one under Sidebar tab under SHARED doesn't work (seemingly) if the share is a Windows administrative share (e.g. D: drive shared as D$). I don't know why, but there's no D$ under my Finder Sidebar even with this option selected. Checking the option under General setting does indeed stick a D$ icon on my desktop.

Bug?

This thread was a help to me ... but I seem to have one other issue I can't figure out. When I check the box to show:

Finder -> Preferences -> Sidebar -> Connected Servers

All I get is the IP address of the connected machine. No details or files or folders in the right-hand window pane. I have to go back to the desktop and double-click the drive icon to get to the drive contents.

What's the point of just showing me the IP of the connected machine? Has anyone else seen this?

Where are the Network Drive icons mounted?
