"iTunes was not properly installed . . ."

When itunes recently upgraded, I got this message when starting the application:
"Warning! iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes."
I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes with the same result.
Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I recently made upgrades to my computer (processor, motherboard, RAM, video card and Vista) and I now have the same issue. I have tried several times to reinstall iTunes (as suggested) but continue to get the same error message. I am using the same Sony DVD rewrite that I used prior to the upgrade. I never had issues burning CD’s before.

It appears iTunes does is not recognizing the DVD rewrite drive.??? When I go to edit, preferences, advanced, burning it reads "No Disc Recording software found". The drive is defiantly there and working properly.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Follow this guys (b noir) advice. It just worked for me! If the copied link to GEARS drivers does not work, go to the original message under "Error after update to 7.4.3"

PC Windows XP Pro 64 bit OS

The answer may lies in your system configuration info.

Try installing the standalone 64-bit GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for importing and burning. The GEAR drivers are available from the following page. Note that there are two different versions of the drivers: be sure to get the one that matches your hardware:

Thanks Sirturtlehead, that worked for me too. Yes I am running Vista 64 also. Nice to see iTunes open without an error now. For me it was more of a pain because I had never used iTunes and then the first time I decide to try it bang I get and error that doesn't want to go away. Thank goodness for forums because I was finding no solutions elsewhere in the support here.

Finally!

I've had the annoyance of clicking OK every time i loaded up iTunes, now it looks like it "works", finally.

I just couldn't install those drivers before because Vista 64 for some reason told me they were already installed, I must have fixed something along the way.

Installing those drivers FIXED this issue for me.

It depends on what version of the operating system you have installed. To find out go to:
_Control Panel_ -> _System Maitenace_ -> System

Then under the "System" heading it will say "System type: 64/32-bit Operating System" If it says 32-bit then download the 32 bit driver if it says 64-bit download the 64 bit driver.

Hope this helped Aaron G.

Thanks for the help Imorhi.
Unfortunately, the driver instal did not work. I run my itunes from my external hardrive and have downloaded it there as well as my laptop c drive but I still get the pop up window before I enter itunes. Can anyone offers some suggestions?
Another question that I have is related to coverflow. Are there still problems with the battery being drained when using coverflow? I have stopped using it completely and my battery seems to last a lot longer.

I would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks.

Updates are sketchy business to begin with. Rarely do I do them. And here, we are all experiencing 'why'.

First, I updated iPod software and everything seemed fine (was still using iTunes 7.3) until I tried to listen to my pod. All the space was accounted for, but the songs, playlists, etc. all gone!

I read some other message board that suggested to simply download the newest iTunes 7.5. Problem is, I could never get it to load properly. I'd always get the same message that iTunes was, "missing files...Please re-load iTunes". Back to the forums & boards.

Finally, somewhere on one of these forums someone suggested this great fix which worked like a charm for me. First try and install 7.5.
Next remove Quicktime (usually the culprit) completely from your computer.
Then,Go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html
& download the Quicktime 7.2. Re-load & get going.

Voila! Finished. Hope this helps
