Laserwriter utility only works in OS 9.... Now what?

10.5 will not allow OS 9 to run even if is in a classic partition.

What about those of us that are still using Apple Laserwriters and no utility was ever made for it under OS 10? Had to keep OS 9 for only that utility. There are times I still need to use the utility to change printer features.

First Apple don't give access to an Apple printer under OS X and now they break the only path available under OS 9.

Any suggestions?

You could always recycle an older Mac that supports Mac OS 9 and print through it by the Mac becoming a router from LocalTalk to EtherTalk(Apple's implementation of Ethernet on the pre-Mac OS X oses). Or hook up a LocalTalk to EtherTalk convertor box to print directly. The Apple Laserwriter is a PostScript printer so any PostScript driver in Mac OS X should work with good results.

I have been sharing the original Laserwriter Plus (2nd Laserwriter in the original LW case) this way for years with my Mac OS X Macs.

So you cannot use the Laserwriter Utility on the iMac to change the features, then print with the Leopard system?

Depending on the age of the early iMac, it will be running either Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 (aka Classic). Unless it was upgraded to an early version of Mac OS X, but can be brought back to the "classic" age easily with a reinstall from the original system disks. I have the original Bondi Blue iMac through iMac G5 in my Mac collection, so I know the G3 and original G4 iMac runs Mac OS 9.
