Hi Everyone,

Yesterday my iMac had a terrible accident. My old desk gave way on one it's feet and the iMac fell off. Thank God it was alright working wise, but one thing happened. BIG crack in the LCD bezel.Right along the bottom.

Has anyone opened up the screen and replaced the bezel? I have noticed there are three 1.5mm (or something like that) screws on the bottom of the display. I need some kind of guide to help me get a new LCD bezel on there.

Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brian Skorski

    Hi,

I'm not sure if you were lucky (that the iMac still works) or unlucky (that the desk gave way).

The service manual explains how to remove the bezel but in my opinion the risk of causing more damage is such that I wouldn't attempt it:

    Thanks for your response.

The link doesn't work.. But I'm pretty much confident that I'm careful with these delicate iMacs.. I might even buy a dead iMac and take that apart to practice on!

Anyways, would the process be something like, remove the screws, lift the bezel without snapping the cables, etc? Let me know.

    Thanks

Hmm. My links to these pages often suspiciously break. Drop me an email at the address in my profile.

The cables in the (20" display at least) casing are short, taped in place and have very fragile connectors.

I'd be tempted to glue the bezel.

    cheers

    Thanks mrtotes,

Well, I'm beconming less confident in this. I don't need to ruin my beloved anymore..

I might take it to my local AASP to see if they can do anything. I'm not sure if they'll do it, or how much it will cost.. I'll call them right now and see if they can do anything.

    Thanks.
