I have an SMB NAS drive that connected fine in 10.4. However, with 10.5, on my MacBook Pro I can connect to it and can see the 2 volumes on it but can't do anything with them, and can't disconnect from it once connected. On an iMac G5 also upgraded to 10.5, it starts to connect and then locks up. I can connect to the NAS with FTP with no problem but not through sharing.
Called Apple yesterday for this problem. They said they are aware of the problem. They are active collecting log-files from users. So when you have problems connecting to your networkdrive (NAS) or can't see files in your networkdrive, please report this to apple (keep your serialnumber ready). I got a mail from technical support with a capture-data programme so they can locate the problem.
I have the same problem, can mount the NAS Drive then nothing, can't see any of the files on it. Also once its Mounted I can't eject and the whole thing basically stops responding and I cannot eject or change login.
My other share from a Windows XP box seems fine however.
Same problem but what I've noticed is I can drag a file from my Mac in to a folder within my connected drive but not in the top level directory. For example, SharedDocs is one of the directories on the PC on my home network, I can connect but can't put anything in there, I have to put anything in a folder within SharedDocs.
so long as the password is shell-escaped. I'm not too keen on that as a solution since the password has to appear on the command line. I hope the bug can be fixed soon! But this seems to work for now.
Okay, same goes here on my MacBook. I just updated it to 10.5 this morning, and I can't connect. As a matter of fact, using go->connect to server doesn't even show the drive on the network at all.
My other 3 Mac's have no problem, but they are still on 10.4.x.

I have the problem with the frozen connection as well. After connecting to a SMB share and entering my credentials, I get the connecting dialog which never goes away (until I relaunch Finder).
In my case the problem was the password. I had a % character in my password and after changing the password to another complex password without the % character, the connections worked fine.
I'm a consultant and connect to various customer networks. I can recreate the issue in several networks with different flavors of Windows Server (NT4, 2000, 2003). The problem only occurs when I use the password with the % character. I guess there are more characters that would cause the issue, but I haven't tried. Maybe high ASCII? This problem was definitely not there in Tiger, so there seems to be a bug in the SMB suite in Leopard.
Is there anyone from Apple on this Forum? What exactly are Apple doing about this?
This is a nightmare for businesses like us that use the NAS for our central file storage.
We are a small business and have supported Apple for years, only using Apple computers, when we could easily have switched to Windows. We also promote Apple products to clients and have been instrumental in converting business over to Apple. I know Windows has its problems as well but this just isn't meant to happen with Apple.
Funny thing... I do see my NAS. I can connect to my NAS. I can browse the files on my NAS.
I can write on my NAS. BUT! I can´t copy or move files from my NAS to my Mac which are bigger than 944 KB. (With a smaler file I can do anything.) Seems to be a major bug in Leopard. Impossible to work with that size limitation.
Thanks god I´am not alone with my NAS problem 🙂. Since I don´t use any authentication for my NAS (it´smy private network) I have actually no difficulties connecting to it. What doesn´t work, and from my point of view it´s more than embarrassing for Apple, is to copy or move files or folders from the NAS shares to my iMac. Help is highly appreciated. There are so many problems with Leopard and thousands of postings in this forum. What the **** is Apple doing to solve all this problems???
I tried to skip any authentification process while connecting to my NAS. The connection is fine, stable and fast. But still the same problems. No copying or moving files from my NAS to my Mac if the files are bigger than 944 KB.
Next step: I created a brand new shared folder on my NAS. I copied some files (in different sizes) from my MAC to that folder. BUT AGAIN: I cannot copy them back to my MAC. Strange....
So created two new volumes on my NAS. One with password authentification and one without. Same steps. Same results. No copying back to my MAC. I also tried to trace the data with monitoring different ports on my router. I also tried opening every port on my router. Still no success.
Beside: my Mac Mini running OS 10.4 has no problems with any file or folder on my NAS.
My conclusion: this is a bug in Leopard with the new rights control management.
The NAS warks fine with my iMac 10.2, I have a logged on blank screen with my Mac mini 10.5 but files moved onto the NAS with the mini 'disappear' (the icon disappears) but can be seen on the iMac in the right place!
I have a NAS and connected to SMB shares in Tiger. After the Leopard install, I can connect using IP address but cannot access folders. I can if I run Ubuntu under Parallels. Go figure.
