I have a Kensington mouse on my MacBook which uses their Mouseworks software. A search here on "mouseworks" turns up zero, so I wanted to see if anyone with a Kensington mouse had success w/Leopard before I do the upgrade. Without the software the forward/reverse buttons don't work.
I already know now that the driver for the Logitech MX Revolution I bought on Saturday for the G5 isn't going to work as it uses the now-infamous Unsanity APE. Bleh.
(yeah I know about USB Overdrive)
G5 2x2, BlackBook, TV, 5G iPod,
Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Check with the vendor for updated drivers. I don't know about Kensington but the "SteerMouse" driver has been updated and is available for download from their web site.
*"I called Kensington and they confirmed that Mouseworks is compatible with Leopard. "*
Thanks for that info - was wondering the same thing and this is good news. IMO, Mouseworks is the best mouse driver by far. (too bad they have such a limited selection of mice though)
I was pleasantly surprised when I installed the latest MouseWorks that it worked in 10.5. One thing I noticed, which I'm not sure if it's a 10.5 thing or a MouseWorks weirdness is that when I right click in certain apps, like Safari and Terminal, at the same time as getting the context menu the text underneath has been completely highlighted, as if I had double or triple clicked on it before right clicking. Anyone else see this and know what the deal is?
Having upgraded to Leopard, the scroll wheel on my Kensington Expert Mouse (trackball) will no longer "zoom" the screen as it did with Tiger. (I'm talking about the "Universal Access" ability to use a mouse (trackball's) scroll wheel to zoom the screen so long as the Control key (default) is pressed.
This used to work fine with Tiger. It STILL WORKS FINE with the Apple mouse. But, even though I uninstalled the Mouseworks driver and then reinstalled it, the Expert Mouse has lost its ability to zoom the screen with the scroll ring.
The Internet is rather silent on this issue, and I'd come to rally rely on it. Anyone with any experience with this issue (or does it work for you?)
This is new Leopard functionality for all right mouse button clicks. Allows you to easily look up a word in a Dictionary, as well as easily opening of a link that is anywhere within a text. Really handy at times.
Ah, thank you. I see it now in text URLs in angled brackets. It actually highlights the URL exactly how I would before right clicking on it, other than the fact that I have both mouse buttons configured to open the URL there.
Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
I understand your concern. I regret to inform you that Mouseworks 3.0 on 10.5 breaks the native Ctrl + Scroll to Zoom functionality, but for now the solution is to Uninstall Mouseworks if this functionality is preferred. As we test the Expert Mouse & MouseWorks on the release version of Leopard and found that all functionality/programmability works with MouseWorks installed except for scroll wheel zoom.
However as we have forwarded the issue to our software development team, we are expecting an updated release very soon.
